IT WAS THE BEST OF TIMES, IT WAS THE WORST OF TIMES

I thought it was the Best dollar I have ever spent. My 1.00 pencil sharpener. It gave me instant satisfaction. It worked so well. Then a week later, tragedy struck. It broke. We get what we pay for.
So what did I do?
I bought a 2 dollar pencil sharpener. So for so good.

The Future

You have to read this.....then read The Prophetic book of the Bible along with Revelation......

WORLD LEADERS CONSIDERING SINGLE CURRENCY AMIDST SEVERE GLOBAL ECONOMIC CRISIS * Will Barak join Netanyahu's government by Sunday?
By Joel C. Rosenberg (Washington, D.C., March 19, 2009) -- Amidst the global economic crisis in which upwards of 45% of the world's wealth has been lost in the last 18 months, talk of radically restructuring the global economic system is growing. In recent weeks, leaders in Europe, Africa and the Middle East have proposed scrapping the current economic order and going to a single common currency. A story in yesterday's Moscow Times is creating quite a stir in particular. At the April 2nd meeting of world leaders in London (the G20), the Kremlin is reportedly set to propose a new global common currency system to replace the U.S. dollar as the international currency of choice. The story notes that "the Kremlin's call for a common currency is not the first in recent days. Speaking at an economic conference in Astana, Kazakhstan, last week, Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev proposed a global currency called the 'acmetal' - a conflation of the words 'acme' and 'capital.' He also suggested that the Eurasian Economic Community, a loose group of five former Soviet republics including Kazakhstan and Russia, adopt a single noncash currency - the yevraz - to insulate itself from the global economic crisis…." "Nazarbayev's proposal...garner[ed] support from at least one prominent source -- Columbia University professor Robert Mundell, who was awarded the Nobel Prize in 1999 for his role in creating the euro. Speaking at the same conference with Nazarbayev, he said the idea had 'great promise.' The Kremlin document also called for national banks and international financial institutions to diversify their foreign currency reserves. It said the global financial system should be restructured to prevent future crises and proposed holding an international conference after the G20 summit to adopt conventions on a new global financial structure." Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad last week called for a single regional currency for 400 million Muslims in the Middle East. "The process of obtaining one single currency in the trade and exchanges among members, and in the next stages with other countries and neighbors, should be designed," the Iranian leader said March 11th. Libyan leader Muammar Ghadafi, recently elected leader of the African Union of states, is calling for a single continental currency for all of Africa and has persuaded 200 tribal leaders to call him the "King of kings." The BBC reported in February that Ghadafi "envisages a single African military force, a single currency and a single passport for Africans to move freely around the continent." Now comes a new story on this morning on the Reuters news wire: "U.N. PANEL SAYS WORLD SHOULD DITCH DOLLAR." "A U.N. panel will next week recommend that the world ditch the dollar as its reserve currency in favor of a shared basket of currencies, a member of the panel said on Wednesday, adding to pressure on the dollar," the story noted. "Currency specialist Avinash Persaud, a member of the panel of experts, told a Reuters Funds Summit in Luxembourg that the proposal was to create something like the old Ecu, or European currency unit, that was a hard-traded, weighted basket. Persaud, chairman of consultants Intelligence Capital and a former currency chief at JPMorgan, said the recommendation would be one of a number delivered to the United Nations on March 25 by the U.N. Commission of Experts on International Financial Reform. 'It is a good moment to move to a shared reserve currency,' he said." The "Euro" is the model many are looking to, in part because 20% of the world's foreign exchange reserves are already held in euros. Last year, the EU celebrated the 10 year anniversary of the creation of the "euro." These are curious developments given that scholars of Bible prophecy have long noted that according to the Scriptures, in the "last days" the world will see the emergence of an entirely new international financial architecture, complete with a single common global currency created and mandated by the leaders of Europe. The Bible indicates that eventualoly no one on earth will be able to engage in commerce without "buying in" to the new cashless system. The prophecy is found in Revelation 13:16-17, which reads: "And he [the world leader that emerges from a revived Europe] causes all, the small and the great, and the rich and the poor, and the free men and slaves, to be given a mark on their right hand or on their forehead, and he provides that no one can buy or to sell, except the one who has the mark, either the name of the beast or the number of his name." Cynics and skeptics have long dismissed such talk as the province of "religious nuts" and "prophecy buffs." But the discussion is now being advanced by major world leaders. It's too soon to say where this will all lead, but these are certainly developments worth watching.

PRAY FOR THE LEADERS OF ISRAEL The big question in Israel right now is this: Will Ehud Barak join Benjamin "Bibi" Netanyahu to form a government that can and will defend Israel from the apocalyptic ayatollahs in Iran? Netanyahu has said from the beginning that he wants a broad, "unity" government rather than a narrow, partisan one. He believes that he made a mistake in 1996 not asking Labor Party leader Shimon Peres not to join his government. So now he's going the extra mile to invite Labor's current leader onto the team. Privately, he has offered Barak the opportunity to stay on as Defense Minister, and has offered key positions to other members of Labor. Personally, I hope Barak says yes, not for partisan political reasons but to unify the country in the face of the threat of Radical Islam. I met Barak once at the King David Hotel in Jerusalem and I have come to like him. True, he was not an effective Prime Minister. In 2000, he made a serious error of judgment. He gave away southern Lebanon for nothing. In 2006, Israel paid for that error, receiving 4,000 rockets and missiles from Hezbollah as a "thank you" present. Political leadership has not been Barak's strong suit. Still, he was an amazing general - one of the most decorated in Israel's modern history. He helped rebuild the IDF after the 2006 debacle (which he was not in government for) and led a brilliant campaign into Gaza in January (which PM Olmert ended too quickly). Most importantly, Barak understands the Islamic revolution. He understands the existential threat Israel faces now from the ayatollahs in Iran who are feverishly trying to acquire or build nuclear weapons and the missiles to deliver them. Bibi could really use him at his side. The challenge: the Labor Party's rank and file membership - as well as some of its top officials - can't stand Netanyahu. The party is filled will "ABBs" - people who want "Anybody But Bibi" to lead Israel. So it's not clear by any means that Barak can persuade Labor to accept Netanyahu's generous offer. What has become clear in the last 24 hours that Barak wants to accept Bibi's offer. To his credit, I believe he sees it as his patriotic duty, not a matter of partisan politics. He knows the future of his country is on the line, and like the good soldier he has always been, Barak wants to suit up and help. Please pray faithfully for Messrs. Netanyahu, Barak and their advisors. Pray for wisdom. Pray for unity. Pray for clear vision and courage to do the right thing. The deadline to submit the final coalition is Sunday at 3pm local time. Netanyahu could ask for a two week extension, but he has indicated he does not want to. Let's pray he can finalize a broad, stable, "unity" government quickly and get on with the urgent business of governing right away. Time is short and the stakes are high. --------------- In Matthew chapter 25, Jesus praises His followers for feeding the hungry and caring for those who are suffering. For more than a year, the Joshua Fund has been financing the purchase of some 10 tons of food each month to care for the poor and needy in northern Israel through some of our trusted allies near the Lebanon border. This typically includes rice, flour, canned vegetables, cooking oil, and other staples. Because of your gracious donations, we have already purchased a total of more than 200 tons of food. This has blessed thousands of Israelis living under the poverty level. The cost of this project is $21,500 a month. At the same time, we are helping provide food for needy Israelis under the poverty level in the town of Sderot in southern Israel, just a few kilometers from Gaza. Like in the north, we work through trusted allies. Some are Israeli Jews. Others are evangelical Christians. It is an honor to work together with both and help them love their neighbors with unconditional love. The Sderot project requires a monthly budget of $10,000. Would you prayerfully consider making a $50, $100, or $500 donation to help us with these and similar projects? Thank you so much. At the same time, please also pray that we can finish raising about $134,000 to complete a new ministry training center in Iraq. As I mentioned in a recent Flash Traffic, in the course of my travels to Iraq, an exciting opportunity has presented itself. Christians leaders in Iraq want to complete the building of a ministry training center inside their country. For security reasons, I can't say too much about where it will be or who is involved in the project, but I can say we have known these leaders for years and have seen them bear much fruit. Part of the building is already complete and is being used. Finishing the rest will create urgently needed new classroom space for teaching the Scriptures and training current and future Christian leaders. There will also be facilities to accommodate guests coming from other parts of Iraq or from abroad to train or be trained. There will be office space, and communications facilities for staff and volunteers to correspond with believers and seekers from all over the country via phone, letter, emails and chat rooms. We would be deeply grateful if you would pray for us and those Iraqi Christian leaders we are working closely with. If you would like to help us financially meet this goal and complete this project, we would be deeply grateful as well. As always, we will do our best to keep you up-to-date on the kinds of projects we are doing, and brief you on how those projects are proceeding. We will also let you know about the kinds of projects we are developing for the future. In no way do we want to pressure anyone to give financially. We fully believe the Lord will provide for the needs of the people we seek to serve. But if you or others wish to help, we welcome your support, and all financial gifts are tax-deductible. If you would like to make a contribution to the on-going work of The Joshua Fund please make your check payable to "The Joshua Fund" and send to: The Joshua Fund 18950 Base Camp Road Monument, Colorado 80132-8009 Thanks so much and may the Lord richly bless you and your family as you bless Israel and Iraq in the name of Jesus -- especially at critical moment in history of the epicenter.

Bruises - What are the odds of that?

Today is my last day at my current J O B.
I am writing bills and listening to tunes on the computer.
It is 0720....gotta roll.....
I am wrapping up while the song "Bruises" by Chairlift comes on.
As I am listening and signing things off, the line about putting the frozen strawberries on the girls' bruised knee comes on. Just then (no lie) an add for Chocolate covered strawberries moves across the yahoo screen.
WHAT ARE THE ODDS OF THAT?
A sign?
Maybe my ESPN bracket will be perfect and I will win the Million bucks.
If you click on this link and even watch a little TV, you will have herd this song.
Gotta Go...................

I'M Back

It has Been Awhile

I haven’t written a blog in quite awhile. Why? I really have no clue.
So here is what is and what should never be……..(just a play on words that really makes no sense to this entry - also the title of a great song by Led Zeppelin - the song does make sense but is not related to this blog)

A lot has been happening since my last blog and then again not much has happened.

My Great Aunt Edna passed away. Her Funeral service was beautiful. When you know someone is “TRULY” in a better place, you celebrate their life. Aunt Edna was one of the best people I have known. She was a great person to everyone.

My Birthday came and went.
We went to a restaurant we’ve never been. Le Parvenu in Kenner. http://www.leparvenu.com/

It was awesome. It moved into my Top 5 (the only problem is – who would have to fall out of my top 5).

Another Tax time is here and yes, I am stressed again. I think it stinks for people who work hard and pay taxes just to pay more.....oh well, we shall overcome!

I was fortunate to be able to speak at Church. The title of the message was “God is Awful.” I enjoyed the research and all what I learned.
Do me a favor, look up the word AWFUL in your dictionary.

I forgot to do my blood work in February, but all is well.
I’ll probably forget again in April.

I am reading KISS by Ted Dekker and Erin Healy. It is mind boggling. I was reading the book during the commercials while Lost was on. My head was spinning big time.
After Kiss, I will be reading The Shack, the children’s book, The Little Prince.

We’ve been watching some ok movies lately. Nothing that “knocked our socks” off. So I won’t go into detail on the flicks.
But I will say we watched (for the second time) August Rush. If you haven’t seen this movie, you need to.

I am changing jobs. New opportunity and new challenge. I am happy to leave the company I am currently working for. I trust that the “NU” company will be the right step for us. I gave it all up to the Lord, so whatever happens is what is supposed to.
My last day is St. Patrick’s Day. Should I wear green? Is green a “happy” color?

Speaking of St. Patty’s Day, I went to see Flogging Molly http://www.floggingmolly.com/ on March 1 (it was a part of their Green 17 Tour). Just like last year, it was remarkable. I will say this, last years opening bands were great. This year: The Mighty Stef http://www.themightystef.com/ were great. The Aggrolites – not.

The Dodgers finally signed Manny.
Hallelujah!!!!!!!!

I will have more later. I will get better with more frequent and hopefully thought-provoking blogs.

One last thing: a cool quote: "Apt words have power to assuage the tumors of the troubled mind." - John Milton (English poet)

Remembering "RERUN"

The other day at work I called the tank wash we use (The place that cleans our Chemical trailers after we deliver) and Shirley answered. She is the wash rack's clerk. Trying to be funny and make people smile I said "Shirley, I need a favor."

She said "What is it."

I said, "When Rog, Dewayne and Rerun come to the diner, tell them I will see them later."

I laughed and my co-worker laughed. Shirley didn't laugh.

I could not believe that she did not know who Rog, Dewayne and Rerun were. I quickly explained to her about the show "What's Happening".

After that I felt the urge to google Rerun.

Fred Berry passed away on October 21, 2003. I didn't even realize he died. Between the time I read some information on him and now, it is starting to come back to me. I sort of remember him passing.

He starred in the show. He battled drug addiction and alcoholism in the 1980s. During the 90s, he became a Baptist minister. He lost 100 pounds after learning he had diabetes. Rerun got around. He was married six times to 4 different women. Berry appeared in various films after the "What's Happening" days. He was recovering from a stroke at his Los Angeles home when he died.

Rest in Peace Rerun.

Honest Abe

I have writer's block.
So I cam across this from yahoo and thought you might find it interesting.
The headline:
Lincoln ranked best president by historians

I was happy to see Honest Abe at the top:

What She Knew

What She Knew

Jan. 2009

He told her “You cut me to the quick.”
But she knew all along what he really was.
She could tell who he actually was.
She realized that she would eventually find him.
She understood that he would act as if he was a dim-witted man.
But she knew his act was just that.
She could tell it was a front.
She realized that he would have the capacity to assist her.
But sadly she understood that he never would.

The Laundry List

The Laundry List – for Hiccups
Feb. 12 2009

Last night my wonderful wife had hiccups. They simply would not go away.
I suggested a spoon full of sugar.
For the hiccup of it, I went to our copy of The Doctors Book of Home Remedies.
On page 345, in plain sight, I see the words: “Doctor Dubois’ surefire sugar cure.”
So we use the sugar and the hiccups go away. They stay away.
This blog would be over now, but I decided to read a little further.
I turned the page and saw “The Laundry List.” This is a list of suggested cures for hiccups.
Two of them immediately caught our eyes.
1-“Lift the uvula (that little boxing bag at the back of your mouth) with a spoon.”
TIMEOUT! I have one question to the person who tried this. How long did it take you to clean the puke up off the floor? I gag just thinking about a spoon touching my “little boxing bag.” I guess this works because just the thought of that would scare the hiccups out of a person.
I can picture the deleted scene from Valley Girl. “Like oh my gosh. Like I had the hiccups and I totally gagged myself with a spoon and like it was totally gross like for sure. I threw up all over my Madonna poster. Like wow, totally no more hiccups. For sure.”
I will stick with the sugar.
2-“Yank forcefully on the tongue.”
WHAT?
I tried it last night. It hurts. Imagine the scene. Two couples meet on a cruise. The husband of one couple can’t talk. The wife is asked why. Her answer: “Back in 2002, John had the hiccups.”
I will stick to the sugar.

FINDING OTIS REDDING'S GHOST

Finding Otis Redding’s Ghost

2-10-09

This past weekend, we went to Memphis.
We went to visit my step son there and had a wonderful visit. The Memphis skies were partly cloudy but the days were beautiful. Beale Street was in full swing. Live Blues music was blowing through almost every door. The vibe was flowing through our bones. Our hotel was remodeled and like new. It was a weekend that would rank up with the best of them in my life so far.
When I was a younger boy, my little brother bought a compilation set of cassette tapes. The Complete Stax-Volt Singles: 1959-1968.
We were floored. This music spoke to my heart and something moved inside of me every time we listened.
Ever since that day, I wanted to go to Memphis to see where Stax Records was. Later in adult life that thought fell a little out of my mind, but I never forgot the music. Like many types of music, the Stax tunes were listened to for a stretch, then not. Regardless of the period of listening to the music or the music taking a back seat to other types, the Stax sound was always a part of me.
That sound and vibe will always be a part of me.
Hurricane Gustav hit and we evacuated to Memphis.
Prior to that I had almost forgotten about the Stax Museum (on the old site of the original recording studio) being in Memphis. We stopped at a tourist information station and were looking at brochures when we saw the Stax Museum flyer. I was instantly ashamed that I had not remembered it being there.
Otis help me.
We came and went and didn’t make it to the Stax Museum.
We vowed then, that on the next visit to Memphis, the museum visit would be on the agenda.
On Saturday, February 7, we drove to Soulsville USA, The Stax Museum of American Soul Music http://www.soulsvilleusa.com/ and my heart skipped a beat. I was actually nervous. I didn’t know what to expect, but I knew it was going to be nice.
It was more than I expected.
It was a lot more.
All of the Stax artist have a place in my music heart. I enjoy some songs more than others, but every note, chord, and beat that was generated from the old converted movie theater at 926 E. McLemore Avenue hits me where it hurts (that is a good hurt).
Some we have all heard of, some lesser known. I learned of some artist just this weekend that I had no idea recorded at Stax.
Carla Thomas and her dad Rufus, Booker T. and the MGs, Sam and Dave, William Bell, The Staple Singers, Johnnie Taylor, The Mar-Keys, The Bar-Kays, Jean Knight, and Isaac Hayes are just a few of the many remarkable artist who produced that soulful sound from Stax Records. I was equally impressed with all of the exhibits and stories that reflected their lives and careers. In a word, I was simply moved.
As I walked through the museum I was held up by the old recording equipment that was displayed so gracefully there. It was as if time stood still for me. I thought about the fingers that touched the keys. I tried to put myself behind the controls as Carla Thomas or Otis Redding sang behind the microphone.
Then my wife walked up and said that coming up next is a room basically dedicated to Otis Redding.
My heart, another beat it skipped. When I walked around the corner and saw the picture of Otis on a board, a small tear tried to escape from my right eye. I held it back. Time stood still while I was in the “Otis” room (There were other items in the room, but the greater majority of the writings and plaques and pictures and documents were Otis).
I don’t know how long I was there but I do know the last thing I looked at in that room. I read Otis Redding’s death certificate.
I found Otis Redding’s ghost.

Note: When I say “Ghost” I do not mean the kind we all think of when Halloween comes around. I hope that in my writing, you, dear reader, understood the “Ghost” that I found. If not I failed you, if so, get yourself to Memphis.
Note 2: No cameras are allowed in the museum so after we exited I took pictures of the front of the building. Standing there, the tear that tried to escape in the “Otis Room” did.
Note 3: In later blogs, I would like to do a piece on the story of Stax records. Look for it whenever it may appear.

PAM.....the space aged last forever wonderful spray

I was briefly amazed by PAM. The 100% natural, no-stick cooking spray. A couple of days ago we were grilling and I looked at the PAM can and saw the words "Look! Freshness date on bottom." So in my most daring Dora the Explorer way, I looked under the can. What I saw was amazing. This can of PAM (which I am currently looking at for inspiration) has an Expiration date of "FEB2310". I went WOW! then started counting on my fingers. The year 2310....that's like 301 years from now. My wife chuckled and said the Expiration date was Feb. 23, 2010.

I paused for a moment and thought how stupid I was. But then I started thinking of distracting reasons why I was "not all there."

Could it have been the birds in the Avocado tree squawking (at a cat we didn't even see until it ran)?

Could have been the Christmas lights on the deck (we took the lights down in the front of the house, but will keep them up around the deck for awhile - see LOST LIGHTS)? http://copiouscogitations.blogspot.com/2009/01/lost-lights.html

Those lights were really shining.

Could it have been the mushrooms we were grilling (among other things)? They were store bought. We didn't find them with Alice in the woods.

Or was it just the relaxing day of not thinking about the world around us?

I vote for the latter.

So raise your PAM and spray.

PS: PAM is also fun to spray on ants. It doesn't really kill them but it is fun anyway.

Torment

Torment
Jan 2009

Approaching the dreary place.
The sweat freezes on your face.
Do you turn around or are you ready to plead your case.

Burning the candle at all three ends.
You get burned in the middle.
You are alone, you dread your life.
Is it worth all of the stress and strife?

You have someone in who you can turn.
But do you realize that before you crash.
Before you churn.
Before you burn.
Your guts and insides spew out like a mud slide coming down a mountain.

“Don't you just want to give up?”
“Come on.”
The voice at the top of the stairs says. “Come on, Give it up.”

You need to decide.
Open the door.
Walk up the dark stairs.
Face the demon.
Face yourself.

You don't have to be alone.
You don't even have to cry.
But you do have to scream and yell and let it go.
Give it up.
Give what up?

You open the door.
It doesn't make a sound.
The sweat on you face disappears.
You gain something.
You take three steps up the stairs.
It goes black.

A moment of Silence.....for Rain

My Cousin Amy responded to the previous blog about "cutting back".
Rain (in New York City), one our favorite places to eat, is no more. My wife and I ate there with Amy and Gil in August 2005 (that is the night we first met Gil). We have longed for it and thought about it several times since.
Well, we will always have that night.

A moment of silence please...

Cutting Back...."The New (but really old) lingo for the DIET

I always say (probably not my own words - I may have heard this somewhere) that the best day to start a diet is tomorrow.
I actually cut back prior to the Eating barrage of Thanksgiving and Christmas. I must say I did pretty good. Then my wife and I went on a cruise to Mexico and I "killed it." But we walked a lot. We took the stairs as opposed to the elevator (at least 95% of the time). I came home feeling good. But since then, my WADEOBICS plan has been left to wonder. My not eating from the overpriced snack machine at the office took a terrible turn yesterday.
So it is time to once again CUT BACK.
It makes me think. What would be my last meal if I ever truly went on the "D" word.......
The possibilities are endless (and I will probably miss some good meals on the list below).
Should I...
Fly to New York and go to the restaurant Rain?
Should I drive to Hahnville and pig out on Daddy's Fried Chicken buffet?
Should I go back to Mexico and eat fajitas until I puke at Three Amigos?
Should I go to Broussards and eat the Louisiana Bouillabaisse (TWICE) (plus my normal appetizers)?
Should I go to Moe's Pizza on the west bank?
Should I go to Vizards on Magazine Street and eat appetizers that are truly large enough for your entree?
Should I go to Deanies (not the Seafood one) in the CBD and have a two meal - last meal (Awesome breakfast and lunch - home cookin')?
Should I go to Houston's (on St. Charles) and eat 5 servings of the grilled artichokes (then eat my meal)?
Should I go to Taco Bell and eat 4 Big Box meals and drink Baja Mountain Dew?
Should I fly to Jamaica and eat jerk chicken and rice (that sounds nice).
Should I go back on a cruise and eat all day (the top it off with a cream cheese-salmon-bagel at midnight)?
Should I walk the streets of New York and get a canoli from every street vendor I pass?
Should I go to one of the many (preferably the one on 58th St. in NYC) CHURRASCARIA restaurants around the US?
Or should I just eat pancakes?
Pancake?
Who wants a pancake,
Sweet and piping hot?
Good little Grace looks up and says,
"I'll take the one on top."
Who else wants a pancake,
fresh off the griddle?
Terrible Theresa smiles and says,
"I'll take the one in the middle." ......Shel Silverstein
Well, the list could go on and on, but I need to go to the dentist.

Lost Lights

We have had today (tonight) marked on our calendars for some time now.
Lost is back!
The new season of one of only a few shows we actually watch on TV finally begins tonight.
So to mark this occasion, we will shine our Christmas lights bright and tune in to ABC at 7pm.
Christmas lights?!?!?!?!?
Yes they are still up. We put them up later than normal, plus we were gone early in January so we have been enjoying the post Christmas lights when we thought about plugging them in.
They are pretty and it helps us always remember the real meaning of Christmas. That, we want to remember 365 days a year.
So tonight we will plug in the lights one last time and as the beautiful glow from the many colors shine in the dark night and the deer bob their heads up and down, we will click on the TV and tune in to hear these long awaited words "....previously on Lost."

FLY.................from the poetry archives

FLY

In my mind’s eye I watch the fly go through the sky.
Then it buzzes out of control and it dies.
What was its life worth as it spent it’s time on earth?
Was it worth anything?
Was it worth nothing?
Was it worth its own birth?

In my minds eye I watch myself fly high into the sky.
I fly to the Heavens above the earth.
Then I watch myself die as I try to fly.
What was my life worth on this earth?
Was it worth my birth?

In my minds eye I watch the fly struggle among the trappings of all lower forms.
Surviving on anything it can touch or feel.
The grotesque idea of this fly that is real.

In my minds eye am I that fly?
When I think I can fly so high that I die.
Or when I fly so high that I never die?

As Smoky Would Say..."I love it when I'm cruisin' with my baby..."

Observations and interpretations and remarks
Cruise 2009

We had the enormous blessing and good fortune to be able to go on another Carnival Cruise last week.

I had the short-lived thought to do a daily Blog each night of our trip (for 2 reasons – 1-to keep up with my “trying to Blog everyday” and 2- I forgot). I nixed that idea before our departure because this was going to be a relaxing trip (and it was) and I didn’t want to have anything I “had” to do and plus it AINT free to use the internet on the ship.

So, instead of a nightly/daily blog, you will get it all in one.

The highlights and/or observations if you will.
Some negative, some positive.

First off, Carnival Cruise line is a superb company. Their “Fun Ships” are really that. Fun.
This was the most relaxing Cruise we have taken. It was a true treasure in our vacation chest.
We sailed to Mexico and spent days there in two different ports.
Cozumel – the fun spot.
Progresso – the relaxing spot.
Mexico has and probably always have a warm (2 seasons: hot and hotter) place in our hearts.
We have been to each of these ports before and were happy to see some of our favorite places still “kicking.”

Lets me get through the negative. Do you know, many people that cruise can’t read (or don’t care). I am no prude, but they have a policy of “No shorts pants in the dining room” for a reason. But people disregarded that and Carnival failed to stop them. Also people actually smoked in No-smoking spots (until a Carnival employee told them to move). And finally, some people acted like they have never been to shows before. They stampeded the door, pushing and shoving, saving seats when they weren’t supposed to, etc etc etc.
No more negative. The negative was really nothing major (except the cigarettes) so I will move on.

What a trip.

We met some wonderful people. We met some interesting people. We met some fascinating people.

Our Dining Room Table mates were terrific folks. Jim and Gene are from Arkansas. Jim and Linda are from Idaho. Our dining room time was filled with delightful conversation and rewarding fellowship. Plus when we met on the boat or in Mexico, we shared the same great time and visits. We could not have asked for better people to dine with and get to know. We really hope our paths will cross again in the near future.

Tristan Gene: An American in Mexico. We both had on our LSU caps that day in Progresso. This guy walks up and says nice hat. Of course, we agreed. He proceeded to tell us about the restaurant he ran. You can sit on the beach, he’ll pump you with free snacks and a nice place to eat and use the restroom. Most of the restaurants along the strip have that service but his was the most appealing. So here we were a couple of LSU fans sitting about 10 feet from an Oklahoma fan in a Florida fans place. College football irony (Florida would end up beating Oklahoma that night in the National Championship game). Tristan said he a beautiful Mexican wife and a wonderful kid brought him to Mexico. He seemed happy. He seemed relaxed. He was a pretty nice guy.

Gorge’: George was a little Mexican boy who said he was 11 (not with spoken word but with his fingers). He looked like he was 7 (at the most). This little guy hustled. He cleared our places and kept our table clean. He played with kids that were sitting there too, but never missed a beat when it came to picking up a dirty plate or empty bottle. He was a nice kid and hope he has a nice life in Mexico. I’m not sure about the other tables, but he did well with tips from ours.

The Little Heavy Metal dudes: Tried for Arson. I noticed one of them before the ship sailed from New Orleans. He looked like a short version of Axle Rose. As the time would have it, we would end up talking to a few if them. Listening to their take on music and life. And giving them just a hint of advice. They were nice young men who on the surface may have seemed rough, but were not. They were just some guys on vacation who happen to be in a Heavy Metal band. So Dylan, KC, Cody, Daniel and Josh keep on playing the music and stay out of trouble.

Big Tex: the cruise director: He was apparently a fat guy at one time. I can’t remember how long he was on the Carnival Fantasy, but it wasn’t that long. He lost 90 pounds since coming on the ship. Amazing. Plus he brought back memories and caused a want and desire to go to a wedding. He did some dances one night. Some we all do at weddings and some new twists on some others. You know the classics. The lawnmower, the sprinkler, the flight attendant and the shopper. I can’t wait to go to the next wedding.

And last but certainly not least: Eduardo Basulto: We were in Progresso in May of 2006. This little old leathery faced Mexican man walked up to our table and sang to us (they do this all over Progresso for tips). He was great. Well low and behold, we saw him again. We had translated to him that he sang for us in May of 2006 and requested the same song. He was great. He ended up singing 3 songs for us and sat for a moment while he fixed one of his guitar strings. That was one of the highlights of our trip. Hopefully when we make it back to Progresso we will run into Eduardo.

Some pictures will soon follow.

Back to Reality...

Back to Life…
Back to Reality
With a continued slap in the face

Last Blog: 1-5-09: off to Mexico. “what fun..Rock n Roll High School!”
Well we are back and well the dreaded “R” word greets us.
But we are so thankful for the trip and the good “R” word: RELAXATION.
I will blog about the trip next but…

THIS AND THAT: A BACK TO REALITY BLOG…

“Back to life, back to reality…” Have you ever heard that song? Hate it.

I am officially on the Arizona Cardinals bandwagon. But I have always been a Kurt Warner fan. I hope he wins another Super Bowl.
I would love a Ravens- Cardinals Super Bowl, but wouldn’t be upset regardless of who gets there.

The economy AINT all that bad.
A while back we switched some $$$ from a Chase money market account to another investor. We went with the “guy”. We had to leave $2.85 in the Chase account. Explanation: too long to write or understand. BUT, great news, in 2008, that $2.85 made a profit. It is now worth $2.86.

Sports Illustrated – even though I cancelled – still send me issues. It is am ok magazine but I only got it so I could get the free LSU gifts (after LSU won the National Championship last year – football). In the latest issue I saw this news…
Jan Kemp passed away at the young age of 59.
Who is Jan Kemp? 1-Someone I applauded. 2-An example of how many Americans put sports in front of truth, honesty and “doing the right thing.”
Jan Kemp (died of complications from Alzheimer’s) blew the whistle on “academic irregularities” at the University of Georgia in the 1980s. She went through hell while trying to do the right thing. She was fired after complaining that the University exaggerated grades of many football players. She was awarded a $1.08 million dollar settlement after suing and was reinstated as English professor. Changes were made at the school – for the better. She was blamed by lots of fans for the school’s football struggles after the scandal. She attempted suicide twice after she was initially dismissed. After reinstatement she stayed on until her retirement in 1990.
I leave you with this. It is ashamed at how we put so much emphasis on sports that we are willing to overlook what is right and true.
When I think of Jan Kemp, I think of the fictitious character Batman. He did so right, but was judged unfairly by Gotham City citizens.

In the title, I wrote a "slap in the face". I will leave that alone right now....Adios

Have a great day!

The Southland in January

1-4-09

The other day I was listening to the Indigo Girls and the song Southland in the Springtime came on.
What a great song (will it make Wade's top 100 songs of all time? - see future blogs - the research is on going...). Click on the link to listen to it.

The clip is not the whole song but you get the idea...

When i listen to that song i can't help but think of where we live. One of the positives is today - Jan. 4, 2009. The following pics were just taken in our back yard......."the southland in January"

The New Year and old thoughts

1-3-09
Resolute?

Yesterday was my Big-Bros Birthday. Happy Birthday Herman.

Day before yesterday was the first day of 2009. LSU fans were high and Alabama fans were feeling good (i bet they aren't feeling so hot today). I root for the South Eastern Conference in football, but not last night. I love the Utes from Utah.

on to the blog:
I have never really made New Year's resolutions, but since I do this blog now, I will give it a crack....so here goes...

Wade's 2009 Resolutions
Part 1

1-Blog more. I am still new at this and sometimes I wake up in time to shower and get to work so...I want to average 20 blogs per month....
do you want to check out an awesome Blog? This is my Cousin Amy and her hubby Gil's Blog....it is a regular Wade read: http://www.chimeraobscura.com/
2-I need to study the Bible better. Not just read and think, but devour and dive deep.
3-Learn Italian.
4-Read more: I always have a book going, but I read slow. I need to find a way to combat that.
5-Let go of the STRESS!!!!!! Totally!
6-go see Flogging Molly sometime in 2009 (going in March).
7-Eat at Vizards and Broussards and One and Commander's Palace at least one time in 2009.
8-meet with Les Miles to discuss the LSU defense and QB position.
9-eat less. Exercise more.
10-Go to Cuba.
11-Dance on Dancing with the Stars. http://abc.go.com/primetime/dancingwiththestars/index?pn=index
12-to finally totally understand LOST. http://abc.go.com/primetime/lost/index?pn=index
13-to better understand my handwriting (it took me a few moments to decipher this).
14-to finish my book (i started it over 2 years ago).
15-To cut a record with Mike Ness. http://www.mikeness.com/ http://www.socialdistortion.com/
16- NEW YORK CITY!
17-To pitch the Dodgers to a 2009 World Championship. http://losangeles.dodgers.mlb.com/index.jsp?c_id=la
18-To be the best that I could be.

.......to be continued.

I will leave you with one of the "Things to Ponder" selections that appeared on my blog today...this is great:
Things to Ponder
